Professor Prabhakar Rontala Subramaniam started his academic career since 1994. Almost three decades of experience in India, Ethiopia and South Africa has shaped his academic career in several dimensions. He joined UKZN during the year 2009. He has a passion for teaching, research and supervision. He is a lifelong learner and always willing to get exposed to the emerging computing fields. At UKZN, he was instrumental in introducing honours level modules, Mobile and Personal Information Systems which focus on Android Mobile Application Development and Big Data Management and Analytics.
His teaching areas includes Database design and management, Advanced Systems Analysis and Design, Mobile and Personal Information Systems using Java Programming language, and Big Data Management and Analytics using R analytical tool.
His research vision is to tackle problems related to social engineering using mobile computing technologies and data science. He has supervised numerous masters and PhD research dissertations to completion in the areas of Big Data Analytics, BYOD Security, Social Engineering, Knowledge Management, Gamification, and teaching and learning technologies.
Imparting knowledge is incomplete without potential collaborations. Collaborating with the right people enables effective knowledge sharing and building. Professor Prabhakar has served in several curriculum development committees in different countries. Currently, he serves as a Board of Studies (International Member) for MSc (Data Analytics) program offered by an autonomous institution in India. He has established collaborative forums with the researchers in other institutions and published several journal articles. He has served as an editorial board member and reviewer for several journals, and conferences.
