At the School of Commerce, we offer many professionally accredited degree programmes at the undergraduate, honours, postgraduate diploma, masters, and PhD that have a strong industrial link and clear multiple pathways towards graduate employability in the academy, government, business, industry, and international organisations. Some of our programmes are self-funded and offered in the evening to provide greater access for working professionals.

School Disciplines

The School of Commerce offers a wide range of professionally accredited, transdisciplinary programmes across four main disciplines:

Accountancy

Specialisation in financial accounting, auditing, taxation, and managerial accounting and finance.

Economics

Specialization in micro-economics, macro-economics, international trade, health economics, econometrics, monetary economics, environmental and sustainable economics.

Finance

Specialization in corporate finance, public finance, personal finance, risk management and investments.

Management

Specialization in supply chain & logistics, public governance, marketing, human resources management, management & entrepreneurship.

Our Partners

The School has partnered with industry to launch an innovative fintech programme. Other flagship academic programmes in the School of Commerce include, supply chain management with focus on reducing carbon footprint and impact on the environment by optimising logistics and energy management, and reducing waste.

The academic programmes at the School of Commerce are offered on two campuses, Pietermaritzburg in the serene midlands of KZN and Westville on east sea board city of Durban with expansive sea side.

Accreditations

Our professional programmes are accredited by such bodies as SAICA (the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), at level 1, ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants ), FPI (The Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa), CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), and SAIGA (Southern African Institute of Government Auditors). For example, – the Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Management Accounting & Finance is (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants accredited) and the Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning (Financial Planning Institute accredited).
