The Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) discipline in the newly constituted School of Commerce at UKZN represents the vital bridge between today’s fast-evolving digital landscape and tomorrow’s business leaders. Unique within the School, IS&T marries rigorous business acumen with cutting-edge technological expertise—our niche offerings in data analytics and artificial intelligence, cybersecurity management, e-commerce strategy, and digital transformation directly map to industry’s most pressing skills gaps. By equipping students with both the systems thinking frameworks and hands-on technical proficiencies employers demand, we’re driving tangible impact across three spheres: enhancing operational resilience and innovation in business, advancing interdisciplinary research in academia, and fostering socio-economic uplift through technology-enabled solutions for communities. Backed by a dynamic team of 18 full time academics and four professional services specialists, the IS&T discipline proudly serves a vibrant cohort of over 200 undergraduates and some 70 postgraduate students—ensuring that each graduate emerges not just as a technology user, but as a strategic digital architect ready to lead South Africa’s commerce into the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
