Overview

The purpose of the programme is to provide postgraduate students with a vehicle to engage with the economic and legal dynamics of the maritime transport industry, at a level appropriate to a postgraduate diploma programme. The core modules provide a postgraduate introduction to maritime transport economics and international trade law, respectively, With this foundation in place, the elective modules offered permit students to develop greater depth of analytical insight into maritime legal arrangements that facilitate the relationship between cargo owners (importers and exporters) and vessel owners (the carrying lines); into the role of ports as efficient and seamless interfaces between sea- and land-based transport modes (with particular reference to the South African ports system); and into the Customs practices and arrangements that facilitate commodity trade.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants should, as a minimum requirement, either have a recognised undergraduate degree in Commerce, Law, Engineering or Science, or its recognised equivalent, or have received an equivalent certificate of competence from a recognised maritime agency.
